| Midtown’s Cancer and Research Foundation |
| Cancer is a dreadful disease, which destroys a person not merely physically, but also emotionally and financially. Timely and right action can help in mitigating the sufferings. Rotary Club of Madras Midtown took up the cause of fighting Cancer and formed Rotary Cancer & Research Foundation, a Charitable Trust enjoying exemption under Sec. 80-G of Income Tax Act. The Foundation has the following objectives: |
- To create awareness in the minds of the public about Cancer by holding seminars and Cancer detection camps.
- To hold camps in slums and areas where the poorer section of society live, thereby to identify the potential risk factors and advise the inhabitants of these areas.
- To provide pecuniary assistance to poor patients for treatment and medicines.
- To motivate & provide insurance for Cancer.
- To assist in the Research of Cancer related activities.
| With a view to provide assistance to poor and deserving cancer patients, a scheme has been drawn under which a Rotary club can identify the poor and deserving cancer patients and help such patients for medical treatment. The Foundation will provide matching assistance to the patient to extend help being provided by the respective clubs. Rotary Foundation will provide matching assistance to a club upto a sum of Rs.10,000/- in a Rotary year. Till now 50 patients have been provided with Cancer medical aid. The Foundation has been successful in convincing United India Insurance Company to issue a Janata Cancer Group Policy. The salient features of this policy are as follows: |
- The policy will be issued for a period of three years.
- The insured is covered for Cancer risk and if diagnosed with cancer, the Insurance company will pay a sum of Rs. 20,000/- to the Insured.
- Any person between the age of 5 and 65 will be insured under the policy.
- This is a beneficiary Policy and not reimbursement policy.
- This policy is issued only if it is sponsored by non-Government organizations like Rotary Club.
- This policy also covers personal accident. In case of personal accident the insured will get an amount of Rs. 20,000/-independent of the Cancer Insurance amount. Therefore the policy has double benefit.
- This policy will be issued only to a group of a minimum of 100 persons.
- The premium of the policy is Rs. 100/- for a period of three years.
| It is the endeavour of the foundation that maximum number of persons from lower strata are insured under this policy. The foundation has been providing 50% of the premium in case the Rotary club sponsors a group of 100 persons. Till now nearly 1000 policies have been taken under the scheme. |

| Midtown’s Young Achiever Recognition Programme |
| Rotary Club of Madras Midtown conducts the “Midtown’s Young Achiever Recognition Programme” as a long term project. The club recognizes young students who have performed excellently and who are on the path to making their Dreams Real. |
| Every month RC Madras Midtown has been identifying and recognizing talented youth. The YAR Programme is normally scheduled during the second Monday of every month, at Hotel Taj Connemara. It is being conducted along with the Annets Club of RC Madras Midtown. This programme gives Midtown’s Annets an opportunity to look out for talented youth and recognize them. This is an empowerment programme for the Annets as they conduct the meeting along with the Rotarians and it also helps them learn to from awardees. This we believe will inspire our Annets to pursue their own goals. The awardees too are inspired and encouraged when they receive the award from Rotary and also share their thoughts with an elite audience. |
The Annets Club President for 2011 – 12 is Vijayalakshmi, Annette of President Rtn. SP. Chintamani. |
